Informed Voting in the Presence of Prejudiced Voters

Joint with Rachel Bernhard.

Using a standard global game, we demonstrate how the presence of prejudiced voters in a primary electorate can induce non-prejudiced voters to under-invest in information about relatively unknown, novel candidates. Our model provides a new explanation for several empirical patterns in the literature on gender in politics.
